Server Technology

The Web Help Desk is deployed as a Java servlet running under the Apache Tomcat 5.5 servlet container (included in the installation). A compatible Java 5 Runtime Environment (JRE) is included for all platforms except Mac OS X and Solaris which have a pre-installed JRE. Because the application is 100% pure Java you have the freedom to install on the operating system of your choice without the worry of OS lock-in.

• Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 Server
• Red Hat or Debian Linux
• Sun Solaris 8

Database Support

An embedded FrontBase database is included for Mac OS X and Windows installations. All platforms can choose from any of the supported databases: MySQL 5, Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005, Oracle 8i - 10g, OpenBase SQL, FrontBase 4 and PostgreSQL 8. The application and database are not required to run on the same server or operating system, so feel free to mix and match hardware and operating systems to best suit your needs.
